About The Project

Marina City is a series of 5 connected buildings located in downtown Chicago, IL along the marina. This project focuses on 1 of the 2 currently existing residential towers with the intent of renovating the residential tower into a hotel. The scope of this project is 20,000 SF, including the main floor and 1 suite level floor.

About The Original Building

It was built to be a city within itself, one of the first such schemes, it covers a full city block and contains facilities such as a theater, gym, swimming pool, ice rink, bowling alley, and several stores and restaurants.

Design

• Targeted towards travelers looking for an upscale, grand hotel to enjoy their stay with facilities for entertainment

• Design inspired by the Marina itself and the unique shape of the building

• Emphasis on access to entertainment facilities

Inspiration

Inspired by the location along the marina and the unique shape of the building, the design focuses on creating an environment that complements and enhances the structure and location of the building. Going with the initial motive of the building, which was to have extensive facilities available so as to create a ‘city within a city’, Marina City Hotel will emphasize its entertainment facilities so as to attract visitors looking for a luxurious and unique hotel experience and not just a place to stay the night. A gallery will be located on the main floor which showcases artwork by local artists, bringing  a piece of the city of Chicago into the hotel.
